1893The Original Ferris Wheel
George Washington Gale Ferris Jr. built the first ever Ferris wheel for the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Standing 80 metres tall with 36 cars, each holding 60 passengers, it became the sensation of the fair and gave its name to all that followed.
2000The London Eye Revolution
When the London Eye opened on the banks of the Thames on New Year's Eve 1999, it transformed the concept of an observation wheel into an architectural landmark. Its 32 sealed, air-conditioned glass capsules offered panoramic views across the capital — and a 30-minute experience unlike any fairground ride.

The 21st century has brought a global boom in giant observation wheels. From the 167-metre High Roller in Las Vegas to planned mega-structures across Asia and the Americas, these engineering marvels are becoming defining features of modern city skylines.
